Winemaker's Notes

From one of the greatest California Cabernet vintages ever, this 2001 is an absolute stunner! Best of all, it presents amazing value for lovers of Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark red with purple tones and up front aromas of berry with a hint of sweet oak. Cherries, berries and cassis flavors touch the palate. A lingering finish of elegant tannins and black spice completes this silky wine. Varietal Composition is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 2% Syrah, 2% Petite Syrah, 1% Malbec

Alexander Valley possesses the greatest diversity of soil types in any wine-growing region of California. It has a long history of dramatic geologic activity-from an ancient mudflow that changed the course of the Russian River, to earthquake upheavals that redistributed whole sections of land. The incredible diversity of soil types and microclimates produces wines with the velvety textures and bright, luscious flavors that are characteristic of Alexander Valley. Simi Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the best of Alexander Valley's bright fruit characters and elegance that made this world-class growing region famous.

Blackberry & black cherry flavors w/apparent tannins & moderate acidity that easily handles grilled steaks. Reminiscent of a good, left-bank Bordeaux. G++. S16.5

Learn About Sonoma County

Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about a half the amount of wine as her northeasterly neighbor. But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...

Learn About Cabernet Sauvignon

(cab-uhr-NAY sow-veeh-yawn) King of Red Many refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the king of red grapes. Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
