No doubt Silver Oak produces good to great Cabs, but i was slightly dissappointed with the lack of overall profundity in the 2003. Still tastes good though, smooth/balanced, but seemed a bit weaker in consistency and finish when considering both current price and greatness of some Silver Oak heritage vintages i have savored. I say 3 and 1/2 stars for this 03 - not saying i wouldn't buy again - am saying i might buy a case of Caymus before restocking this one.
I am surprised that the previous reviewer was less impressed on this one. I found this to be one of my favorite Cabs of all time. I am very sparing with my 5 star ratings, and I adored this Cab...to the degree that I just bought another bottle today. We drank this for my birthday this weekend (we did a tasting assortment), and this was the best of the best of the day - very complex and intense, with an incredible balance of fruit and spice, and a fabulous finish. Boy, did I have a happy tongue with this one! :)
This was my first experience with a Silver Oak Cabernet and one that I hope can continue for a lifetime. We've had some excellent Stags Leap and Martha's Vineyard this holiday season but truly this was a taste experience. The finish lasted forever. This dense full bodied vintage reminded me of nutmeg and blackberry. If you can find this in stock, buy it.
