Winemaker's Notes

The 2000 Silver Oak Alexander Valley is a classic, rich Cabernet Sauvignon with a dark, ruby color and a complex nose of cassis, blueberries, cherries, nutmeg, chocolate and sandalwood. It is luscious and full-bodied on the palate and has a long, fruit-laden finish reminiscent of licorice.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a medium-bodied, soft, attractive effort with plenty of herbaceousness along with notes of figs, plums, and red currants. Made in an up-front style, it begs to be drunk over the next 7-8 years.

My wine group recently did a vertical of all the Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignons, which proved several things. First, this is a surprisingly erratic producer. While some terrific efforts are produced, other wines have matured and faded quickly. Vintages since the mid-nineties have not been as intensely flavored, but they are still very good. This is generally an oaky (American wood), flashy, easy to drink offering. "

But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...

Learn About Cabernet Sauvignon

(cab-uhr-NAY sow-veeh-yawn) King of Red Many refer to Cabernet Sauvignon as the king of red grapes. Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
