Alcohol By Volume: 14.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine comes from three proprietary vineyards: La Veguilla, Jararte, and Valgrande located around the towns of San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida. Soils are calcareous clay with gravel. Careful hand harvesting of perfectly mature clusters with good sanitary conditions and additional selection made in the winery using a sorting table. The Rioja Crianza (100% Tempranillo aged 14 months in used American and French oak, and bottled unfiltered) exhibits a complex nose of roasted herbs, sweet cherries, earth, and vanilla. Medium-bodied, with attractively sweet fruit, decent acidity, and silky tannin, it can be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years. Bottled unfiltered.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2007 Crianza was aged in seasoned French and American oak for 15 months before bottling without filtration. Smoke, leather, cinnamon, incense, and blackberry are some of the elements jumping from the glass of this smooth-textured, generously stuffed, savory offering. Excellent volume and length suggest that this exceptional value will provide enjoyment through 2019."
