Wine Style Guide

Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

On the nose, the 2010 Shiraz shows earthy gravel, spicy licorice and dense dark mulberries, while the sweet upfront berry fruit presented on tasting gives way to complex cedar, earth and spice notes, wrapping up with ample structure and grip. The vibrant, juicy fruit runs the length of the palate and lingers with a "have another glass" finish.

Critical Acclaim

"Polished and supple, this is brimming with red berry, black cherry and delicate spice flavors, all coursing through the expressive finish. Drink now through 2020."

You won't believe how good and smooth this shiraz is. The wine comes in a screw-top bottle so its always tempting to pull it out. We love it with everything.

This a true find. A little sweetness with the fruit on the front followed by a long mellow finish. I expect to see this in WS's top 100. At $11 you can't miss.

This was a fantastic wine! Both my wife and I loved it. Somewhat jammy, seemingly low in tannins.

For the price I was honestly not expecting too much and it gave me exactly what I expected. After intervals of decanting I could not get this wine to open up much and give me some expressive qualities of this varietal. I guess I can't exactly expect this for a 12 dollar syrah. Probably won't buy again.

I must have gotten a bad bottle. It's awful. Completely undrinkable. I set it aside for cooking.

Some of these are the most popular: New South Wales - home to Sydney and other tourist destinations, New South Wales has a smaller focused wine growing region, but many wines are a blend of these smaller appellations and so are deemed New...
