One Point Five is an elegant, silky Cabernet Sauvignon with soft tannins and abundant fruit that is approachable when young, yet capable of aging gracefully. This wine reflects the climateand soils of our Stags Leap District vineyard sites and Shafer’s commitment to meticulous, sustainable farming and quality winemaking.
The glass comes alive with aromas of crushed red and black summer berries, rose petal and herbs. In the mouth the generous, lush black and red fruits integrate enticingly with sage, tobacco leaf, smoke and black spice all wrapped within a structure of ripe Stags Leap District tannins. The finish is long and pleasurable.
Vinous / Antonio Galloni - "Herbs, graphite, menthol, pine and black plums meld together in the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five. The 2011 is decidedly dark, intensely mineral and savory throughout. Sage, rosemary and anise are some of the many nuances that add depth over time. In 2011, the blend includes 5% Petit Verdot, which contributes to the wine's dark, balsamic-inflected personality."
The Wine Advocate - "A revelation, it is hard to believe the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five (95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot) came from a challenging vintage of cool weather and rainy periods. It boasts an inky/purple color along with sweet cassis and mulberry fruit intermixed with notions of high quality toast and spring flowers. Although it does not reveal the mid-palate density and impact or finish of the 2010, the 2011 is an outstanding success for the vintage.

International Wine Cellar - "Bright ruby-red. Aromas of mulberry, licorice and graphite become increasingly musky with aeration. Pungent and tightly coiled but still supple, showing good energy and cut to the blackberry and cassis flavors. Intensely flavored even if it doesn't have the density or sweetness of a top vintage. The smoky, slowly building finish shows sweet tannins. A bit unyielding today but very successful for the year. 91(+?) points"

John Shafer and his family founded Shafer Vineyards, located in the Stags Leap District of the Napa Valley, in 1979. From the Shafers' first wine, a 1978 Cabernet Sauvignon, their wines have won much acclaim. Today, the Shafers farm 200 acres of vineyard in the Stags Leap District, Carneros and Oak Knoll regions. Their flagship wine, Hillside Select, is produced from selected blocks of the family's hillside vineyards and is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard lands were scooped up and vines were planted throughout the county. A number of wineries emerged, from large conglomerates to small boutiques to cult classics. Cabernet Sauvignon is definitely the grape of choice here, with many winemakers also focusing on Bordeaux Blends. Whites are usually Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Notable FactsWithin the Napa Valley lie smaller sub-AVAs that lend even more character specifics to the wines. Furthest south is Carneros, followed by Yountville, Oakville & Rutherford. Above those two is St.-Helena and finally, just grated an AVA, Calistoga. These areas are situated on the valley floor and are known for creating rich, smooth Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. There are a few mountain regions as well, nestled on the slopes overlooking the valley AVAs. Those include Howell Mountain, Stags Leap and Mount Veeder. Wines from the mountain regions are often more structured and firm, benefiting from more time in the bottle to evolve and soften.

This wine is all about family!(The term "a generation and a half," coined by John and Doug Shafer to describe their long father-and-son partnership. Since 1983 this family team has worked side by side to manage their Stags Leap District winery." Palate shows red and black fruit with a steak of chalk, this is an excellent fine dining wine. Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume.
