The Seghesio family has grown grapes in Sonoma County since 1895 and in Russian River Valley since 1961. In 1995, Seghesio Family Vineyards began an aggressive move toward producing all estate-owned or -farmed wines that included an extensive vineyard-replanting program. Pinot Grigio was part of that plan to grow intriguing varieties in the best and most appropriate sites. Noted for its unusual grayish/pink clusters and shared lineage with Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio is well-suited to the cooler climate of the Russian River Valley.
Vineyard Location Estate-owned and -farmed vineyards in Russian River and Dry Creek valleys. Whole cluster pressed, 100% stainless steel tank fermented, left sur lees in tank until bottling to add richness and textural complexity while making pure, bright varietal essences. Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about a half the amount of wine as her northeasterly neighbor. But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the Joneses, or Napa-ites if you will. Grape varieties are more varied here, from Pinot Noir and Zinfandel to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Notable FactsThe largest sub-AVAs of Sonoma include Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley and Sonoma Valley. Each sub-AVA, with its own micro-climate, is unique in its grape varieties and styles of wine. Dry Creek makes a mean Zinfandel while Russian River produces stand up Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Alexander Valley makes some of the better Cabernet Sauvignons in the county and Sonoma Valley creates excellent wines from all the above varieties. Other grapes found throughout Sonoma include Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Syrah.

Doesn't live up to the WE review and score (89), IMHO. Unable to detect the fruit of "sweet melon" or "white peaches" in the winemaker's notes. Very one-dimensional, overall. Yes, tart and acidic, like WE taster said, but more like a simple Vinho Verde, so no value, even when on sale. Not sure about the "lime," either; the best I could do was "white grapefruit."
