Winemaker's Notes:

Cooler temperatures preserved this Zinfandel's juicy acidity and allowed for the grape tannins to mature on vine while infusing scents of cracked black pepper and heightening the Zin's briary, spicy essence. Fine, ripe tannins add a velvety richness seldom found in Zinfandel. Elegant richness, a broad mouth feel and a lingering minerality elicit typicity and point to superior grape growing. Savory purity of fruit with both aromas and flavors of blueberry and cherry - delicious with red sauces, pizza, barbecue, spicy cuisine and a variety of meats.

"Well-defined berryish fruit is the centerpiece in both the outgoing aromas and the full, fleshy flavors of this weighty effort, yet, for all of its volume and richness, it stays nicely on the varietal track with its background notes of dry spices and briar. It is youthfully exuberant and somewhat juicy in character, and it will be at its best in service with savory roasts of pork marinated in brine and basted with young port."

About Seghesio Family Vineyards:

Seghesio Family Vineyards was the dream of young Italian immigrants Eduardo and Angela Seghesio who met while each worked at the Italian Swiss Colony Winery in northern Sonoma County. In 1895, the couple purchased the original family home and a 56 acre ranch in Alexander Valley. Eduardo continued as winemaker at Italian Swiss Colony until 1902 when he completed construction of his own winery. Today, Seghesio Family Vineyards is a collection of 400 acres of superior vineyard sites acquired over the past century. Vineyards in Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley and Dry Creek Valley were meticulously chosen by four generations of Seghesio winemakers for their diversity and capacity to bear the finest quality grapes. Today's generation of Seghesios shares their grandfather's passion for zinfandel with over half of their acreage dedicated to the grape.
