Schrader RBS To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California
The Wine Advocate - "In fact, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon RBS tastes more like a 3-4 year old wine than one that has a decade of aging. Still tightly constructed, it offers notes of spring flowers, blueberries, black currants, lead pencil shavings and pen ink. This full-bodied, deep, concentrated, stunning, intense, rich, full-throttle 2001 is also wonderfully pure and elegant with outstanding balance. Give it another 4-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the next 25 years.
Wine Spectator - "Aging beautifully, this is pure, ripe, rich, complex and layered, with an even mix of ripe currant, blackberry, melted chocolate, road tar and licorice. Full-bodied, intense and persistent, firming yet ending with a rich, juicy finish.—2001 California Cabernet blind retrospective (June 2011). Drink now through 2018. 150 cases made."
International Wine Cellar - "Full ruby to the rim. A fruit essence on the nose: crushed blackberry and cassis complicated by tar and coffee. A highly concentrated fruit bomb, with smooth, bright berry flavors of uncanny sweetness. Very deep cabernet with excellent structure and persistence. Beginning with vintage 2002, all wines from this vineyard will be labeled "To-Kalon," with the hyphen."

Schrader Cellars Winery
Founded in 1998 by Fred Schrader, Schrader Cellars is dedicated to bringing together the finest vineyard and winemaking resources available to create full-throttle, unbridled wines of great distinction and complex structure. Their programs focus on classic grape varietals grown in the famed Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, and the Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard in Rutherford. They are handcrafted by winemaker Thomas Brown in very limited quantities and are often defined by a single clone of a grape variety, a specific block within a remarkable vineyard or, in some cases, a matrix for the two. This intricate and involved method offers an extremely provocative and rewarding exploration of the influence of clone selection and terroir on the resulting wine. View all Schrader Cellars Wines
About Napa ValleyView a map of Napa Valley wineries
It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard lands were scooped up and vines were planted throughout the county. A number of wineries emerged, from large conglomerates to small boutiques to cult classics. Cabernet Sauvignon is definitely the grape of choice here, with many winemakers also focusing on Bordeaux Blends. Whites are usually Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Notable FactsWithin the Napa Valley lie smaller sub-AVAs that lend even more character specifics to the wines. Furthest south is Carneros, followed by Yountville, Oakville & Rutherford. Above those two is St.-Helena and finally, just grated an AVA, Calistoga. These areas are situated on the valley floor and are known for creating rich, smooth Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay. There are a few mountain regions as well, nestled on the slopes overlooking the valley AVAs. Those include Howell Mountain, Stags Leap and Mount Veeder. Wines from the mountain regions are often more structured and firm, benefiting from more time in the bottle to evolve and soften.
About CaliforniaIt's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.
