Bright, clear yellow color. Dry with a distinct aromas of citrus and flowers, combined with hints of smoke and minerals from the volcanic soil. Fulll-bodied, well-balanced with intense flavors and long finish.

The 2014 Assyrtiko is unoaked and comes in at 13% alcohol. It is surprisingly nice as it expands in the glass; "surprisingly" because it started a bit dull and closed, and then opened nicely. It began to show more lushness and a bit more persistence on the finish. While not seriously concentrated, it does rather well for itself and finishes with a burst of tasty fruit. Overall, this shows beautifully, fresh, tasty and friendly. Note: there is a new label (at least in the USA) for this wine, now which contains a basket-shaped grape vine and the heading "volcanic terroir."

A crisp white variety full of zippy acidity, Assyrtiko comes from the volcanic Greek island of Santorini but is grown increasingly wide throughout the country today. Assyrtiko’s popularity isn’t hard to explain: it retains its acid and mineral profile in a hot climate, stands alone or blends well with other grapes and can also withstand some age. Somm Secret—On the fairly barren, windswept Mediterranean island of Santorini, Assyrtiko vines must be cultivated in low baskets, pinned to the ground. The shape serves to preserve moisture and protect the growing grapes in its interior.
