Light & Fruity

Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.

Smooth & Supple

Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.

Earthy & Spicy

Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.

Big & Bold

Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.

Alcohol By Volume: 13.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The wine presents itself to the eye with a ruby red color tinged with violet hues. It has an intense aroma, with hints of fresh fruit and pleasant floral notes. Being of good structure, the wine is well-rounded, harmonious, and rich on the palate. The finish is characterized by sweet tannins and a lingering taste of the fruit from which it was born.

Lovely Chianti-style blend, great taste for the money. I'd assume it's not in quite the right geographic area to be called "Chianti", so it doesn't command the higher price it would otherwise have.

You can usually find this in the 3 for $25 bin, nice option for later in the evening when palates are less discriminating or when cooking as a sipper in the kitchen - Antinori next steps up are REALLY good!

Learn About Sangiovese

For a stint in the 70s and 80s, wines labeled Chianti contained cheap red wine packaged in a straw casked bottle, most popular for the candle holder it would become. But no more. Sangiovese re...
