Winemaker's Notes

The 2009 Saintsbury Lee Vineyard Pinot Noir has brooding aromas of ripe plums, briary fruits, spice box, tobacco and rose hips. Chocolate-laced briary black fruit flavors are supported by fine tannins and lively acidity. Lee has a wonderfully intriguing array of complex flavors that will evolve nicely for years to come.

Critical Acclaim

"Tight, trim and spicy, with aromas of soy, wild berry, black cherry, mineral and cedar. Young and closed, but all the right things are in place, fanning out nicely on the finish, where this gets more detailed."
92 Points

"The 2009 Pinot Noir Lee Vineyard shows gorgeous depth in its dark red fruit, tobacco, spices and cedar. This plush, generous Pinot can be enjoyed today, but it will be even better in another year or two once the flavors develop a little. I especially like the wine’s inner perfume and bright, floral finish."

Three styles of Pinot Noir are produced: "Garnet" is a fresh, lively wine full of cherry and raspberry fruit; the wine simply called Carneros Pinot Noir is a more classic rendition; and the Reserve Pinot Noir is the richest and most fully flavored of the vintage.
