About Rutherglen Estates:
Undoubtedly this is the most exciting and ambitious vineyard project since Rutherglen was first planted back in the 1850's. Since 1997 Rutherglen Estates has planted almost 360 hectares of vineyard, spread across 5 separate hillside vineyards. The largest vineyard is "Melville’s" with 113 hectares planted. The vineyards are planted predominantly to Rhone red varieties with Shiraz, Petit Sirah, Grenache and Mourvedre being the main focus. In addition there are substantial plantings of Marsanne and Viognier.
The warm and dry growing conditions on these meticulously tended hillside vineyards are ideally suited for these varieties. Given the heritage of the region, there are almost 40 hectares devoted to Muscat and Tokay plantings. With the very talented young Winemaker Nicole Esdaile lured from WA, the second series of Rhone themed releases are about to be launched. |
