    Winemaker Notes

This wine was made with traditional Burgundian practices. Healthy fermentations allowed Sur lie aging from harvest until the first racking 9 months later. Battonage, stirring of the lees, occurred two times a month to integrate extra body and complexity. Some of the finest French oak barrels from the regions of Vosges, Nevers and Centere of France yield the roasted nuts and spices. Fruit and minerality are the signature of Rutherford Hill's Chardonnay vineyards. The 2005 Rutherford Hill Chardonnay will accompany Thanksgiving or any Holiday meal.

    91 Points

"Subtle floral aromas of lemon peel, green grape and butter. Intense, minerally, almost briny flavors of apricot pit, hazelnut and butter. Creamy close."

    Rutherford Hill Winery Winery Video
Nestled high in the Eastern Hills, Rutherford Hill Winery commands a spectacular view overlooking the Rutherford bench of Napa Valley. It is from a handful of the most select Napa vineyards that Rutherford Hill continues its tradition of crafting legendary wines. In 1976, while the rest of the world was just beginning to take notice of Napa Valley, the founders of Rutherford Hill recognized a unique opportunity. They believed that the climate and soil of the valley, similar to Pomerol, were well suited to Merlot and were among the first to pioneer what has become Napa's premier varietal. Today, this tradition of quality continues, expressed by wines of great complexity and character.
