winemaker's notes:

The Roederer Estate Rosé is full and round with smooth flavors and a fine, persistent mousse. The extra measure of Chardonnay contributes elegance and austerity that balance nicely with the delicate fruitiness of the Pinot Noir.

alcohol by volume: 12.0%
critical acclaim:

"Crisp but supple, with floral citrus and peach aromas and layered dried cherry, almond and mineral flavors that finish with bold acidity."

Wine Spectator

"There's lovely precision to the light strawberry notes in this wine, a clean parallel to its pale pink color. The finish is spicy and gentle, with a creamy undercurrent that lingers on fruit. Chill it for prawns."

Wine & Spirits

"From the yeasty, strawberry-tinged aroma to the brisk, doughy mouthfeel through to the honeyed, complex finish, this is a fine wine. It feels beautiful, clean and stimulating, just as a sparkling wine should.

rating (9/29/2010):

Normally not a fan of anything rose, this sparkling wine from California sets itself apart from others in its price category. By keeping the skins on Pinot just long enough to give it some color, you also get more body and flavor making this a very interesting wine by itself or with food. I've had many other champagnes at the same price point that surpass this offering and others still that cost less that do the same. Try Mumms, Gloria Ferrer, instead.

rating (9/29/2010):
Champagnes and sparkling wines are overpriced to begin with. But I enjoy the bubbly to another run of the mill white varietal. What I like most about this sparkling, aside from the great price, is the quality of the bubbles. It feels more like a top shelf champagne. It's very dry and the bubbles have a velvety quality. The flavor is very refined although if you are looking for the exotic notes of a Cliquot or similar, perhaps this isn't as much so. Personally, I prefer it to Cliquot. It's much better than Gloria Ferrer, Feuillat, Mums and any of the others under $40. I even prefer it to the Moets et al in the $50-60 range. If I had more to spend, I'd probably go for the Louis Roederers which I think are the wonderful as well. The Roederers just do it right.
