Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
#64 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2013
The Rockaway Cabernet Sauvignon possesses powerful and slightly tannic with concentrated flavors of blackberry, currant and a hint of toast with a rich, full body, complex structure and a lingering elegant finish.
"Exhibits gorgeous dark berry flavors in a big yet graceful style, turning elegant and supple on the finish, where touches of spice, mocha and light oak come into play. "
"There’s a thick chocolate and blackberry-jam richness to this Cabernet that makes it delicious already. It’s blended with a little Malbec and Petit Verdot, and boasts good structural integrity and ample grape tannins, while new French oak lends wood tannins and a sweet smokiness. As good as it is now, you may want to lay this wine down for 6–8 years, to let it express even more of a sense of terroir. "
"Silky and tangy with crisp acidity and juicy plum and berry fruit; racy and bright with tangy style; long, smooth and charming. 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot "
"A much darker, more structured wine, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Rockaway is loaded with blackish/purple fruit, smoke, tobacco, licorice, cloves and grilled herbs. The 2010 impresses for its layered, nuanced personality and overall sense of harmony. Stylistically, the 2010 is quite somber and brooding, but it is quite attractive. "

But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the...

Perhaps that title is due to its ability to grow worldwide in a number of climates, or to the fact that it produces wine with such character yet such diversity. Either way, this grape is responsible, as a whole or a partner, for some of the greatest wines in the world. In Bordeaux,...
