Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
Alcohol By Volume: 14.0%
Alcohol By Volume Guide
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
Classic Wit's End spice and complexity is the hallmark of this 08 Private Stash. There are full luscious, red velvet pinot flavors on the palate. One can't ignore the rich red berriness of this wine with sides of vanilla, tender spices and cinnamon. Extremely creamy, luscious blackberry flavors, with firm tannins and a lingering finish. No need to reach for flavor nuances here…this is true Pinot perfection with complexity, balance and staying power. Stash this away.
"Light on its feet, sailing its pretty plum and currant flavors into a refined cloud of fragile tannins. The finish lingers evocatively. This feels elegant on the surface, but has a swagger underneath. Drink now through 2020. 150 cases made."
"The 2008 Pinot Noir Private Stash is a bit more deeply colored, displays greater depth and concentration, and has enough structure to blossom for another 3-4 years. Mouth-filling and succulent, this lengthy, pleasure-bent effort will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2023. "
The Wine Advocate
Outstanding structure and length. Juicy with dark fruit and a hint of spice. Quintessential Oregon Pinot Noir.
A fabulous Pinot Noir!
Such finesse, complexity and delicate structure. Simply dazzling.
Earthy & Spicy
This is a rare treat and probably one of the very best Oregon pinots. The 2008 is especially rich and full of dark berry fruit, vanilla bean and an entire bouquet of spices. It's the kind of wine that wraps itself around your mouth and holds on for a deliciously long time. Pairs with practically anything or pair with nothing - it's great on its own.
Smooth & Supple
I revisited this wine, and I misjudged it. I would give 4.5 stars, but I do not know how to give a half star (my original rating was 3). It has an incredible complexity and is subtle at the same time. Yet, it is very delicate. The finish is amazing.

Learn About Roco Map It
Rollin and Corby Soles planted their small Wits' End Vineyard, located on the southwest slope of the Chehalem Mountains, in 2001. Two years later they produced their first vintage, four barrels of the 2003 Private Stash Pinot Noir. They were so delighted with the wine that they decided to produce two separate ROCO Pinot Noirs each vintage: the Private Stash and Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Rollin brings more than twenty years of Oregon winemaking experience, a passion for Pinot Noir and insistence on the highest winemaking standards to this private family venture.
