Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Vivid purple with a violet hue. An elegant, lifted nose of bramble and fleshy raspberry with subtle hints of violets, clove and cedar. Succulent mulberry and red currant fruit harmonise with velvety chocolate, mocha and sweet vanillin nuances. Underlying smoked bacon, mint and earthy characters add ethereal complexity and create a lingering finish of soft raspberry liquorice tannins.

Critical Acclaim

"Purple-red; a quintessential full-bodied McLaren Vale shiraz, with masses of blackberry and black plum fruit wrapped in a coat of dark unsweetened chocolate. A long future."

Style: Smooth & Supple
For the price, this Shiraz really can't be beat. This wine maker's vintages appear to sell out rather quickly so, get it while it lasts. To begin, this Shiraz has the typical appearance of it's varietal. The nose is very rich with oak, ripe fruit, vanilla and soft spices. The pallet starts with oak and fruit followed by mellow tannins. The finish is long and smooth with hints of black cherry, licorice and nutmeg. This shiraz is worth every inch of it's 93 point rating. However, I would go one higher and say it's a solid 94, maybe 95.
