This vineyard was planted in 1970 and is now the oldest Pinot Noir planting on our property. Black cherries, vanilla, anise, and smoke in the nose with rich cherry and vanilla flavors that are full and balanced by the soft tannins and firm acidity. This is a very concentrated wine.
"We can quibble over whether the cherries are red or black, or if it's persimmons or pomegranates, or if the mushrooms are fresh or sautéed, but that's the point. This wine is so complex, it initiates discussion. Fine acidity and rich tannins provide structure, and although the wine is silky enough to enjoy now, you really want to give it 6–8 years.

"The 2010 Pinot Noir West Block is a deep, layered wine. Blackberry jam, exotic spices, black cherries, menthol and spices wrap around the palate. The West Block impresses for its sensual personality and long, pure finish. This is a decidedly plush, fruit-driven expression of Pinot. There is less aromatic delineation than in most of the other wines. Ultimately, the West Block will be enjoyed most by readers who enjoy opulent, explosive Pinots. There is no shortage of personality here."
