Winemaker Notes

Barolo Cappella di Santo Stefano is intense ruby red. The nose is rich and persistent, extensive and elegant. There are hints of violets and marasca cherries. On the palate, it is complete, harmonic and well balanced. This wine has great character and can be enjoyed for 25-30 years.

Ripe strawberry and blueberry aromas, with hints of lemongrass, lead to a full-bodied palate, with big, chewy, juicy character. Powerful and very rich, with dried mushroom flavors and hints of raisin and spices.

The 2005 Barolo Cappella di Santo Stefano come across as incredibly pure and vibrant in a linear expression of dark cherries, plums, flowers, intense spices and minerals. Here, too, the wine reveals superb energy and focus framed by powerful tannins. The wine's commendable clarity and precision are impossible to ignore. This is a magnificent effort. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.

From the Santo Stefano di Perno cru, where nebbiolo ripens on a hillside fanning out from south-southeast to southwest, this is a concentrated and powerful 2005. Its initial barrel scents completely give way to luscious red fruit and supple, meaty tannins. A blast of nebbiolo power slowly dissipates through a long finish, with savory hints of porcini and roses. A hearty wine with a formidable structure, this is suited to long development in the cellar.

Rocche dei Manzoni Rocche dei Manzoni Estate Winery Image

Rocche dei Manzoni was founded by Valentino Migliorini in 1974. The winery is located in the small enclave of Manzoni, in Monforte d'Alba. The buildings that make up the complex fit perfectly into the beautiful hilly landscape of the Langhe. A place where art, culture and music come together and create a unique opportunity to explore the great vintages that the Langhe has to offer.

In 1998, the Pianpolvere Soprano wine cellar in the vineyard of Bussia was purchased, and is run as an independent entity. It is a biologically run winery that, starting from harvest 2017, boasts the biodynamical certification too.

The production philosophy is based upon a desire to intervene as little as possible in the wine cellar operations. However, this does not mean that they do not have their own style. Rocche dei Manzoni has always been faithful to its core processes and these are based on the use of new small oak barrels for red wines. Over the years Rodolfo has learned how to properly blend wood to wine and this led him to introduce the use of egg-shaped concrete wine tanks in 2008. Thanks to these, the winery has managed to find the keystone to producing wines that are even more elegant and silky smooth.
