Robert Mondavi Napa Merlot 2005
Merlot from Napa Valley, California
Full-bodied, with ripe, integrated tannins enlivened by excellent acidity. Harmonious layers of ripe black plum and blackberry fruit flavors with a hint of spice and taffy-toasted oak.
Robert Mondavi Winery
For more than 40 years, Robert Mondavi Winery has been the symbol of Napa Valley. Founded in 1966, it was the first major winery built in Napa Valley in the three decades following the repeal of Prohibition (1933), and went on to establish the foundation for modern California winemaking. Robert Mondavi Winery's mission-styled architecture, with the expansive archway and bell tower designed by Cliff May, has become an enduring landmark that honors California's history. With the philosophy that great wines reflect their origins, Robert Mondavi Winery pursues the fullest expression of the terroir of its Napa Valley vineyards: the historic To Kalon Vineyard in the Oakville American Viticultural Area (AVA), and the Wappo Hill Vineyard in the Stags Leap Vineyard AVA. 1 rating, 1 with reviewMike Hines - Sammamish, WA48/5/2008A nice ruby red (2 of 2), this merlot has an open and warm boquet, with a gentle hint of oak (3 of 4). The presentation is fresh and bright and leads to a fun, medium weight body and a simple yet enjoyable finsih (6 of 10). A super value at $23, it is very nearly as good as many Napa Merlots in the $60s.(3 of 4). TOTAL: 14 of 20
