Winemaker's Notes

Mountainous well-drained soils and the exposures of high elevations combine to concentrate aroma and flavor, as well as color and density, in wine grapes. This results in some of the most expressive wines imaginable. Traditional techniques and hands-on care, serve to elevate the remarkable character of our wines, so that we may offer you a most rewarding wine experience.

Critical Acclaim

"A classic example of a Bordeaux blend, the 2002 Claret possesses an inky/blue/purple color as well as a fabulous perfume of graphite, creme de cassis, smoke, and licorice. It hits the palate with a full-bodied, unctuous texture, tremendous purity, and moderately high tannin in the 40+ second finish. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018."
95 Points

"Bright ruby-red. Very deep, vibrant aromas of cassis, minerals, tobacco, fresh herbs, licorice and tar; complex and, yes, claret-like. Dense and thick but suave and quite dry; very French in style. Tasted next to the splendid 2002 Reserve Claret made by Foley under the Pride Mountain Vineyards labe l, this is even bigger and more structured-but then it's 100% cabernet sauvignon, while the Pride wine is two-thirds merlot."
