Winemaker Notes

This wine possesses a deep and brilliant purple color reminiscent of a bowl of ripe summer plums. Aromas of cassis, black cherry, and blackberry are balanced with allspice, white pepper, bakers chocolate, cedar and wet granite to create a heady bridge between intensity and refinement. The profound yet supple black fruit flavors unfold to the sweet exotic spices matching the aromas. An unmistakable earthy minerality reflects the distinctive terroir of Quinta de Pedras and creates a complete expression of this rocky hillside vineyard. The wine has a well integrated and long finish with ripe fine grain tannins that are substantial but elegant. We suggest decanting this wine while it is young. The tannins also provide an elegant structure and the wine will mature beautifully in your cellar.

Ristow Estate , California
Ristow Estate is located in the eastern hills of Napa Valley between Silverado Trail and Soda Canyon Road, a few hundred yards south of the Stag¹s Leap District. When we first thought about planting a vineyard on this property specialists believed it was an impossible venture because of the exceedingly rocky terrain. After extensive soil testing, it was then determined the terroir would provide an ideal setting for Cabernet Sauvignon; a location which would compel the vines to struggle for nutrients, therefore producing intensive fruit. In 1989, heavy machinery broke and cleared the rocks from nine acres and Block I was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon.
