Winemaker's Notes

Dark purple/violet. Black pepper, cocoa, tobacco, black currants and a hint of cinnamon on the nose. Blackberry and plum fruit flavors followed by full but well coated tannins, firm acidity and a long finish.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2011 Petite Sirah Lytton Estate is fabulous. There is plenty of varietal notes in the glass, but the mid-weight structure is classic Ridge. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and melted road tar are layered into the explosive finish. The 2011 need some time in the glass for some initially awkward notes to blow off, so readers should be prepared to give the wine quite a bit of air.

94 Points

"A fresh fruit and pure berry expression of Petite, with raspberry, huckleberry and pepper flavors that are crisp and refreshing, with good purity to the core of fruit, showing tobacco accents and a smoky black tea note. The tannins gain some traction on the finish. "
92 Points

"Dark, juicy and lush with tangy blackberry and cassis; rich but balanced and complex; Paul Draper shows that it's possible to make a nuanced wine out of this "King Kong" of varieties. "

Learn About Napa Valley

It's hard not to think of Napa Valley when thinking of California wines. The region is, after all, the one that brought world recognition to California wine making. The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...

Learn About Petite Sirah

Petite Sirah(peh-TEET seer-AH) Not So Small There is nothing petite about this grape. Petite Sirah, the result of a crossing between Syrah and Peloursin, is also known as Durif. Being the father, Syrah imparted some of its flavors and characteristics to its offspring, but the two grapes are decisively different. Petite Sirah is mostly found in California, where it gained...
