Grandpère Zinfandel comes from the Grandpère vineyard situated
behind Renwood Winery in Plymouth, California. This 20 acres vineyard
is home to the oldest clone of Zinfandel in America. Believed to be 130
years old, this unique clone produces one of the biggest, spiciest
Zinfandels. This vineyard is planted on its own rootstock and is classically
head pruned. Tight berry clusters, deep concentrated flavors, this vineyard
produces award winning Zinfandels.
Our goal of late has been to add complexity through other varieties and we
now have Petite Sirah to complement the Barbera, Mourvedrè and
Alicante to make the complexity from blending even greater. Great color,
luscious berry fruit flavors, scents from the French Oak aging and firm
chalky tannins round out this sensational wine.
"Marked by high alcohol, rustic dryness and exuberant spiciness, this is a classic Foothills mountain Zin. It offers a flood of pepper, cumin and cinnamon flavors that accent cherry, cranberry and mulberry fruit, wrapped into dense, sturdy tannins. Should develop for up to six years."
