Winemaker's Notes

"The score is based on the wine, with no consideration of the price; this is a serious Cabernet: structured, sophisticated and satisfying as the black tobacco in a Sobrane. The depth is there in the color, violet-purple at the edge, black cherry at the core. The depth of black cherry extends to the aroma and the finish, all dense fruit on a supple, generous texture. A pleasure with a steak, and a steal at the price."

The Fugitive Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 is a deep red colour with vibrant purple hues and a rich, lifted nose of blackcurrants, integrated French oak and touches of mint and eucalyptus. It carries the classical fine structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, red and black berry fruit on the palate, with integrated toasted, vanilla oak. Eighteen months maturation in new French oak barriques and hogsheads and a mixture of one- and two-year-old French and American barrels results in a sophisticated and integrated wine.

Redbank captures the rugged essence of Australia's High Country of North East Victoria as well as the collaborative spirit of the early Australian pioneers. A small, select "family" of grape growers have come together for a common effort to produce the premium fruit for the wines of Redbank. Vineyards which are lashed by blizzardly cold winter winds and buried in snow for part of the year emerge at harvest with grapes of the highest quality that enable the Redbank winemakers to produce superb cool climate wines, infused with plenty of hard work and humor.
