Winemaker Notes
When we try to describe this wine, we come up with words like lush, rich, dense, concentrated. Hearty. A wine that can bring out the best in grilled game and steak, same as it can with other bold dishes like stews and spiced-up pastas. What we ended up with is a dark, garnet colored wine with a fruit-driven nose that hints at ripe black cherry, plum, tobacco and vanilla spice. On the palate, the mouth-filling fruit is balanced by smooth tannins. Look for a lingering vanilla oak sweetness.
Not only popular as a rest stop, Ray's Station was gaining a reputation for its quality regional wines, made from grapes grown in the valley and along the lower slopes of Ray's ranch. Today, the wines of Ray's Station pay tribute to that pioneer spirit with a gutsy, food-friendly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that are testaments to the character of Captain John Ray.
