Winemaker's Notes

Situated directly in the center of the Russian River appellation, our block of Kent Ritchie's vineyard was planted in 1972 to the old Wente selection. Widely spaced—the fashion at the time—these old vines with their gnarly trunks produce tiny quantities of grapes per vine. The benchland soil is pure Goldridge Loam, common to great vineyards in this part of the Russian River Valley.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2009 Chardonnay Ritchie Vineyard shows off a multitude of aromas, flavors and textures. It is a gorgeous, multi-dimensional wine endowed with weightless elegance and definition. Lemon, pastry, white flowers and crushed rocks wrap around the insistent finish. In 2009 the Ritchie is all about subtlety, elegance and finesse."
94 Points

"Fresh and vibrant, with a zingy burst of acidity that enlivens the green apple, honeydew melon and subtle lemon tart notes that gain richness and linger. Best from 2013 through 2023."
93 Points

"Yellow-gold. Aromas of orange zest, quince and honeysuckle, with subtle spiciness and a touch of anise in the background. Juicy and intensely fruity, with tangy acidity bracing an array of citrus and orchard fruit flavors. The orange and spice notes carry through on the long finish."

I bought this wine because of the "Ramey" name. One of the best Calif Chardonay's I've had in years. Just enough Oak and the fruit is wonderful.

The Russian River is agricultural land. While there is a focus on wine, beyond the vineyards are many small, family-owned farms cultivating everything from cattle to...
