Wine Style Guide
Red wines that are more fruit-forward and lighter in tannin and body.
Medium bodied reds that go down easy, with smooth tannins and supple fruit.
Wines where earthy and/or spicy dominate the flavors – typically medium to full body.
Full bodied wines that have concentrated fruit and are higher in alcohol and/or tannins. Some need age.
Our fourth vintage from this small, outstanding vineyard on the lower slopes of the eastern Oakville hills. "Pedregal" indicates stones in Spanish, and that is certainly a distinguishing feature of the site. During 2008 we agreed to a long-term lease of this vineyard which gives us complete control even through any change in ownership. Aging the 2007 on its fine lees has coated the tannins and smoothly integrated the wood, and we've left this vintage 24 months in completely new barrels—yet it's hard to find the oak. The Petit Verdot was harvested four days after the Cabernet and co-fermented.
"Ripe and powerful, rich and chewy, with a dense core of loamy
earth, caraway, dried currant, savory herb and mineral notes. Fullbodied,
intense, chunky and deep, with a rich, persistent finish.
Best from 2011 through 2017."
"From a valley floor site just below Dalla Valle in the Oakville Corridor, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal is an intriguing blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Petit Verdot. Aromas of creme de cassis, Christmas fruitcake, cedarwood, loamy soil, blackberries and coffee are followed by a young, concentrated, intense wine that should be forgotten for 3-5 years, and consumed over the following two decades.
The Wine Advocate
"Dense ruby. Drop-dead gorgeous aromas of cherry compote, potpourri, sandalwood, woodsmoke and vanilla. Fine-grained, alluringly sweet red and dark berry preserve flavors are given spine by zesty minerality and become spicier and sweeter with air. Candied rose and violet notes build and carry through an impressively long, juicy, focused finish. Plenty going on already but this is still a baby. This saw 100% new oak but is carrying it admirably. "

The area was settled by a few choice wine families in the 1960's who bet that the wines of the area would grow and flourish. They were right. The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...
