This wine is a good example of why the North East of Victoria is quite unique. Dense in colour with youthful hints of purple, the nose is aromatic with ripe plum and blackberry notes with a hint of vanillan spice from American oak. The palate has similar fruit character, some of which is derived from the high alcohol, which is still in balance with the rest of the wine.
International Wine Cellar - "Inky ruby. Dense and almost porty on the nose, with lush raspberry and cherry preserve aromas tinged by high-toned notes of underbrush, licorice, mocha and dried flowers. Ridiculously sweet and concentrated, with explosive, palate-staining flavors of raspberry, blackberry, cherry, roasted game and floral pastilles and a sappy, clinging texture. The porty, superripe, almost over-the-top red fruit character here reminds me of something freaky from Henri Bonneau, complete with borderline volatility. Penetrating, remarkably concentrated and long, with serious heft to the ripe berry flavors. For those who like a drive on the wild side, here's the fast lane. Just don't light any matches."
RL Buller and Son Winery
Andrew Buller was born in Rutherglen, the youngest of three sons. Graduating from Roseworthy College in 1981 he gained valuable work experience at Corbans in Gisborne, NZ and working harvests at the Leasingham Wine Company. His first success came early with a gold medal at the Rutherglen Wine show for his vintage port. Not letting early success go to his head he continued to gain valuable experience throughout the 1980's traveling Europe between vintages at Rutherglen. He has worked four vintages with Taylors in Portugal, the famous port producer, and one in Beaujolais in addition to visiting the wine regions of Spain, France and Germany.
Today Andrew is winemaker/manager of RL Buller & Son's Rutherglen vineyard and winery operation. He is a member of the Winemaker's of Rutherglen, the Rutherglen Muscat Network, the Rutherglen export group and the Vignerons Association.
Since 1921, the Buller family has produced heavyweight Muscats from their "Calliope" Vineyard - using the age-old techniques of basket presses and open fermenters, to make the Muscats they call their 'sleeping giants'. From stickies to Pinot Noir, Victoria is varied in its wines. The southernmost state of Australia, Victoria is third in wine production, after South Australia and New South Wales. The state is home to the cool-climate Yarra Valley, Yarra Valley, a producer of quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, as well the warmer regions of Rutherglen & Glenrowan. These two areas are hot and dusty and famous for their sweet, fortified stickies.

Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
