The aromas center on brambly fresh blackberry and deep, dark boysenberry. There is an uncommon brightness and vibrancy to the fruit flavors here: dark-fleshed plum and blackberry expand on a plump, round mid-palate accented by just a pinch of black pepper. Full-bodied and bold, the clean, lingering finish exemplifies the quality of the vintage. Enjoyable upon release, this Zinfandel will age nicely through 2016.
Blend: 83% Zinfandel, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petite Sirah, 3% Syrah, 2% Grenache

Quivira is the name of a legendary kingdom, believed to have prospered centuries ago in the land now known as Sonoma County. Founded in 1981 by Henry and Holly Wendt and built in 1987, Quivira's winery has a present capacity of 20,000 cases. The property is 90 acres wide, 72.5 of which are planted with wine grapes. The vineyards reach from the western banks of Dry Creek up onto the adjacent hillsides. Twice as large as Napa in size, Sonoma County only makes about a half the amount of wine as her northeasterly neighbor. But Sonoma, with her size, is able to vouch for more diversity within her borders, including sub-AVAs that are climatically varied. The atmosphere of Sonoma is decidedly laid back and down home country style. But in wines, they are keeping up with the Joneses, or Napa-ites if you will. Grape varieties are more varied here, from Pinot Noir and Zinfandel to Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

Each sub-AVA, with its own micro-climate, is unique in its grape varieties and styles of wine. Dry Creek makes a mean Zinfandel while Russian River produces stand up Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Alexander Valley makes some of the better Cabernet Sauvignons in the county and Sonoma Valley creates excellent wines from all the above varieties. Other grapes found throughout Sonoma include Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Syrah.
