The dialect spelling Mùncagòta is sometimes used to define this vineyard of 20 acres of which 10 are managed by Produttori . It is the only single vineyard with a full south - east exposure which means full sunshine in the morning rather than in the afternoon and therefore a slightly cooler micro - climate. Higher calcium in the soil defines a very elegant, intense wine with a distinct floral, sometimes minty bouquet. Tannins are firm and the finish is long lasting. Produced for the first time in the 1967 vintage.
Great complexity and full body, intense fruit, firm tannins and a very long finish. Extremely elegant, intense fruit in a refined bouquet. Perfect with egg-fresh pasta dishes, risotto, white and red meat, game, venison, cheese. Longevity for 18-22 years.
"Shows ripe raspberry and orange peel on the nose. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and mineral, berry and licorice flavors. This has a polished, velvety mouthfeel. Powerful for the vintage. Best after 2011."

"Good full red. Reticent black cherry and licorice on the nose. At once sweet and penetrating, with a firm spine of acidity and apparent minerality giving this very young Barbaresco an almost painful quality. This has the medicinal reserve and the structure to age a long time."
International Wine Cellar
"The 2005 Barbaresco Riserva Moccagatta is one of the more compact, linear wines in this vintage. The Moccagatta offers up sensations of bright red fruits, flowers, spices and vanilla in a rather unyielding style. The wine should improve in bottle but the tannins will likely always remain somewhat firm. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."
