Winemaker's Notes

When winemaker Jeff Pisoni looks at the label, a year's worth of vintage memories swirl in his head. Grapes handpicked under the cool cloak of night. Finicky Pinot Noir fruit hand-sorted and gently placed into fermentation vats, where cold soaks extract intense flavors and stabilize the rich garnet color of the grapes. Hand punchdowns of the cap provide tannins and a feel for the fermentation's progress. And, finally, wine sleeping in the finest French oak barrels, closely monitored until bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Critical Acclaim

"This medium to full-bodied 2001 boasts a gorgeous bouquet of blackberries, blueberries, smoke, and floral aromas. Heady, pure, rich, and concentrated, with no hard edges, it is a beautiful, young and unevolved expression of Pinot. At last, viticulturist Jeff Pisoni has produced an exquisite Pinot Noir under his own name. Some will think this wine tastes and smells more like Syrah than Pinot Noir. However, it is the essence of Pinot Noir fashioned from low crop yields and ripe fruit. It will develop additional Pinot Noir aromas as it ages in the bottle."
