Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Fresh ripe fruit, pulp and spices provide the Barbera d'Alba "Fides" with body, structure depth, full concentration and harmony of flavors. Sumptuous wine and meant to age.

Critical Acclaim

"A little subdued now, but impressive chocolate, coffee and ripe berry aromas follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and lots of fruit. Big and juicy. Structured. Drink now. 415 cases "

"The 2007 Barbera d'Alba Fides is one of the best versions of this wine I can remember tasting. It is also unusually closed and tight for the vintage, but over time layers of ripe, perfumed fruit emerge with superb clarity and precision. The Fides reveals gorgeous persistence on the palate and terrific overall balance. Ideally it is best opened in advance or given another year or two in bottle, either of which will help soften the tannins. Readers should expect a fairly buttoned up, precise glass of Barbera. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017."
91 Points

"Good deep ruby-red. Very ripe, almost roasted aromas of berries, licorice, coffee and nuts. Lush, sweet and large-scaled, with almost surprising energy and grip but a youthfully aggressive character. Finishes with serious building tannins for the variety. This big boy will require some bottle aging-but the 2006 shows a more intriguing minerality."
