Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc - Viognier 2012
Chenin Blanc from California
The 2012 vintage of this extraordinary blend enchants the nose with a refreshing bouquet of succulent fruit and delicate florals, opening with juicy honeydew melon, sweet white peach, and ripe green plum touched with hints of spiced white tea and soft apple blossom. The vivacious palate leads with crisp yellow grapefruit, fresh-cut pineapple and sumptuous honeyed pear notes. Lush and lively fruit flavors linger through the clean and slightly off-dry finish.
The Wine Advocate - "A consistent winner in the value sweepstakes, this offering from winemaker Michael Beaulac is a blend of 80% Chenin Blanc and 20% Viognier. This dry white offers a stunning aromatic display of honeydew melons, spring flowers, pears and cantaloupe. The sumptuous perfume is followed by a wine with crisp, zesty acids, medium body, and abundant purity as well as freshness. The Viognier component no doubt pushes this delightful white toward an exotic, tropical fruit-flavored style. Luckily, there are 87,000 cases produced. This beauty is meant to be consumed over the next year."
Pine Ridge Winery
In 1978 , a remarkable vineyard took shape alongside a deep pine forest that climbs the western hillside of Napa Valley’s storied Stags Leap District. Today, nestled in a small valley along the Silverado Trail, the carefully maintained and terraced slopes of Pine Ridge Vineyards blend gracefully with the natural rise and fall of the land. Year after year, the wines of Pine Ridge carry a sense of this place and its history. Continuity, balance and meticulous craftsmanship are inherent in the wines and deeply embedded in the winery's heritage. Each vintage reflects the distinct characteristics of the appellation and a focused commitment to refinement that reaches across the years, from the founding of the winery to today. About Other CaliforniaView a map of Other California wineries
California has nearly 100 American Viticulture Areas (AVAs) and accounts for almost 90% of wine production in the United States. In our section of Other California, we include wines from smaller AVAs as well as wines from the California AVA. Here are a few smaller AVAs you may see on the label:
Livermore Valley AVA, located right outside of San Francisco and home to wineries such as Wente.
Lodi County AVA, an AVA further east of San Francisco and known for its excellent, old-vine Zinfandels.
San Francisco Bay AVA, a sprawling AVA that covers Contra Costa, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties, to name a few. Wine that holds only the California AVA is typically a wine that includes grapes from a number of different AVAs, which leads to the general labeling of the wine as California. This does not denote the quality of the wine, only the diversity of where the grapes originate.
About CaliforniaIt's not rare to see a wine's country of origin listed as "California." A country into itself in the wine world, California makes enough varieties and styles to match many European wine countries. It produces a diverse range of wines that span the quality spectrum.
The most famous of the California wine regions is Napa Valley, and these wines are certainly outstanding – but it's not as broad and diverse as its larger neighbor, Sonoma County. Down south, Santa Barbara's Santa Maria Valley is well-known for its Rhône blends, as well as cool-climate varieties like Pinot and Chardonnay. The Central Coast, the largest California AVA, has many different microclimates that lead to a wide range of wines with many sub-AVAs.

This has turned out to be one of my favorite whites. It's crisp and slightly sweet but not cloying. Even my spouse likes it and he's not fond of many wines. I'll keep buying this wine as long as it's available.ChristinaN - Washington, DC31/16/2014windchase - Hood River, OR41/9/2014Dr. Aurum - Astoria, NY412/26/2013MICHAEL HENNESY - Mount Juliet, TN412/21/2013debparr - Friendship, WI44/11/2013Nice. This wine never disappoints. It is lovely alone, or paired with almost anything-of course, I will drink white with anything. This is one of the greatest value wines available

Alcohol By Volume GuideMost wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.
