Winemaker Notes
Intense ruby color that tends toward violet. Fresh fruit comes through on the palate. The taste is velvety smooth and balanced. The full, ripe fruit is supported by delicate tannins. Recommended with roasted meats and game. An Italian favorite with rabbit.
Pieve del Vescovo was born in 1980 and began working in a commercial capacity in 1985. The wines at this time were sold under the Cantina Sociale dei Colli del Trasimeno label. They have since sacrificed quantity for quality in an effort to elevate their own levels of production. Today all of their wines are estate bottled. Their most recent growth spurt occurred in 1993 when Riccardo Cotarella, one of Italy's most famous oenologists, became the winemaker for Pieve del Vescovo. At this time a lot of effort went into the vineyards to perfect and insure great results at harvest. Greater efforts were also made in marketing. Today the results are obvious. Wines that were once only sold in Italy are now exported to all of Europe, the United States and Japan. These wines consistently receive critical acclaim for their level of quality and consistency. According to Gambero Rosso Magazine, Pieve del Vescovo is now producing, "extremely noteworthy and interesting wines."
