Alcohol By Volume: 12.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Pieropan Soave Classico La Rocca is a brilliant straw yellow color with greenish hints. The delicate nose is reminiscent of almond blossoms and marzipan. The wine has good depth of fruit on the palate, nicely balanced by a zingy acidity that enhances its long length.

It makes an excellent partner for soups, starters, especially vegetable based such as asparagus, peas, courgette, egg-based dishes or seafood and fresh water fish dishes. It is also an excellent aperitif, especially when served with simple canapés.

Critical Acclaim

"The 2009 Soave Classico La Rocca opens with an attractive bouquet framed by subtle hints of oak. Sweet apricots, honey and jasmine are all beautifully layered in the glass. The open, textured finish is immensely appealing. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. "
92 Points

"Past vintages of La Rocca have demonstrated Soave's potential for cellar aging, and this beautiful expression from the excellent 2009 vintage also shows a bright future ahead. The wine is redolent of yellow roses and stone fruit and offers a playfully spicy note at the end."
92 Points

"Elegant, with well-knit, racy acidity framing lightly honeyed flavors of ripe Gala apple, cantaloupe, almond pastry, ground ginger and citrus zest. This lovely, finely honed example displays a lingering smoke- and floral-tinged finish."

The present Leonildo (Nino)'s grandfather, Leonildo Senior, founded the estate and 'invented' Recioto di Soave, a concentrated dessert wine applying a...
