Winemaker's Notes:

The inherent quality of the Pewsey Vale vineyard is a reflection of the altitude and the low, grey sandy loam soils. This will be remembered as a text book vintage for white wine in the Eden Valley. After a windy flowering period, naturally low crops were set. Weather remained mild and dry over a long and even ripening period, with the lowest January temperatures on record experienced. This resulted in healthy vines that produced grapes with high natural acid, concentrated flavour and excellent quality.

Pewsey Vale Riesling is pale straw in colour with lively green hues. The aroma is classic Eden Valley Riesling - intense limes and lemon zest dominate with a hint of talc. The palate shows great length and depth with limes and grapefruit flavours finishing with a refreshing lemon acidity adding balance. This wine will benefit from medium to long-term cellaring.

About Pewsey Vale:

Pewsey Vale Vineyard was first planted to Riesling by Joseph Gilbert in 1847. The site was later purchased by well known grazier Geoff Angas-Parsons whom in 1961 invited his friend Wyndham Hill Smith to jointly develop the historic vineyard site. They believed the site could produce "delicate Rieslings in the Germanic style".

With an altitude varying between 485 metres and 500 metres, Pewsey Vale sits 250 metres above the Barossa Valley floor. The cooler temperatures found at this height encourage a longer ripening period which extends well into autumn. This longer ripening period is essential for producing superior quality grapes with exceptional flavour and character - hallmarks of Pewsey Vale wines. Block to block variation enables winemakers to select from separate parcels of fruit to tailor wines to the Pewsey Vale style, ensuring consistency from vintage to vintage.
