Clancy's blend is a firm favorite with lovers of red wine. Peter Lehmann winemakers follow the long Australian tradition of blending Shiraz with Cabernet Sauvignon, but giving their unique touch with the incorporation of Merlot to give a soft, approachable and richly enjoyable red wine.
Color: Dark plum with deep red rim.
Bouquet: A wonderful mélange of plum and pepper, violets and black currant, minted spice notes and black olive.
Palate: Unmistakeably Barossa, with a wonderful richness of delicious forest fruits on the palate. It has good structure and weight, beautifully integrated oak and finishes firm with fine grained tannins.
Clancy's is ideal to share at a barbeque, and also delicious with roast chicken, spaghetti bolognaise and vegetarian cheese dishes.
Something about Peter Lehman's Clancy's - I'd almost liken it to a favorite worn out pair of jeans - comfortable and wonderful. The smoothness, almost a caramel-like flavor is so recognizeable (not sweet, just lingering). Additionally, at the lower end of the price spectrum - were someone to say: Pick a Lehman wine for cost and value - it would be Clancy's.
The nose is light but slightly earthy. Nicely balanced in the mouth - a bit of oak and lots of fruit, with even tanins. Mildly peppery finish. Overall, this blend delivered a medium to full red, much more mellow than a either a Cab or Shiraz, yet retaining some of the best characteristics of both. If you are looking for the softer side of "big and bold", this is it. It matched really well with hearty southern Italian fare. Let it breathe for an hour; crafted to be enjoyed now (2010) - not made for long-term cellaring. Great value for the price.
I have been a fan of Clancys fopr years and the 2005 does not disappoint. Peter Lehmann does all wines well, except perhaps Reisling, but his Clancys blend is the best value. Try it you will be well pleased.
