Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Located south of the Arroyo Seco appellation of Monterey County, Central Avenue Vineyard produces striking yet friendly wines because of its moderately warm days, cool nights, and shale loam soil. This delicate wine offers floral and violet aromas, followed by bright cherry fruit flavors. Its complex aromas make it a perfect accompaniment for afternoon entertaining or lighter meals. Pair this wine with luncheon salads, seafood, or chicken dishes.

Handpicked fruit was gently crushed on top of approximately 10% whole cluster grapes and allowed to "cold soak" for 72 hours. A highly specialized yeast provided a slow, cool fermentation to help preserve the delicate aromas and flavors characteristic of Pinot Noir. Pressed directly into French oak barrels, the wine was then aged for nine months before blending bottling.

Floral aromas of violet and rose petals are nicely complimented by dark cherry fruit flavors and caramel, a result of French oak aging. This Pinot Noir is a perfect accompaniment to afternoon entertaining or lighter meals. Being quite versatile, it pairs well with luncheon salads, seafood, pork, or chicken dishes.

Critical Acclaim

"Impressive for the way the cherry fruit explodes in the mouth, so rich and opulent, then turns wonderfully dry and clean on the finish. It’s a beautiful Pinot Noir, silky and spice. At this price it’s perfect for restaurants. Editor’s Choice"

Way too much tart. I am surprise this wine was reviewed so well. It was a huge disappointment.

Cooked a special dinner and was all ready to enjoy a wonderful Pinot. While I didn't see any crystals, the bottle we received had a taste of vinegar. We poured it out and settled with a merlot opened on a previous night. I hope it was just the bottle we got.

Very nice flavor, very warm. Compliments all foods that a nice red wine should. I've had smoother wines before but this one is worth the price.
