Alcohol By Volume: 13.0%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

Dark ruby color, with purple reflections. Intense nose of macerated cherries and licorice. In the mouth the wine is full-bodied with a generous attack, a pleasant freshness and elegant tannins. This well-balanced wine shows a typical expression of southern Rhône wine with thyme and rosemary aftertaste.

Critical Acclaim

"Potentially outstanding, the 2010 Cotes du Rhone-Villages comes primarily from Grand Prebois as well as other vineyards in St.-Gervais, especially the Syrah component. A blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple hue along with deep blackberry and black cherry fruit intertwined with notions of licorice, garrigue and underbrush. Medium to full-bodied with good acidity, freshness and precision, it should drink well for 4-5 years. "

Excellent wine for the price. I use it to accompany everyday meals, and use the Chateau de Beaucastel, from the same winery Perrin, for special occasions.

Nice wine. Simple but well made with lots of blackberry, spice and some bitterness on the finish.

Most of these varieties are used as secondary blending partners, often comprising less than 10% of the blend. The primary red players of Rhone blends are Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre. Most wines from the Southern Rhone use Grenache as their...
