Winemaker's Notes

This wine is dark and dense with plum red hues and a crimson edge. The nose shows the dark, ripe, aromatic and lifted fruit characters typical of Penfolds. Aromas of Shiraz pepper and spice are completed by notes of cut plums, wild dark fruit, Black Forest Cake, liquorice and aniseed.

Flavors of cherry chocolate, plums and dark fruitcake fill the palate. The well balanced use of oak adds a creamy warm texture of vanilla and toast with a sweet mid-palate and lovely velvety tannins on the finish.

Critical Acclaim

"Moderate garnet hue. Sweet nose of brown sugar, vanilla and floral fragrances. Soft, melded mouth-feel with silky, oak-tinged tannins. Closes with tart, sticky cherry fruit and continued oak impressions."

A great buy. This is one of those less than $20 dollar that is every bit as good as an expensive high rated wine. It goes down smooth yet it has some richness to the palate. You won't go wrong with this one.

Learn About Syrah/Shiraz

(seh-RAH/shee-RAHZ) It's a Smokin' Grape Syrah and Shiraz - same grape, different name. It's a popular and adept variety, growing in multiple regions and creating many different styles of wine. The home base of Syrah is the Northern Rhone, where it creates the exclusive wines of Hermitage and Cote Rotie. On the less pricy side, the Rhone makes Syrah-based wines in Crozes...
