The color is a deep dark purple. On the nose, the wine displays an initial rush of green tobacco, parsley & bouquet garni with a waft of red licorice. Fresh fruits abound - mulberry, the most obvious. Upon a swirl, cedar, spice and a flirt of toasted marshmallow. With air, the generosity and sweetness of fruit is shyly revealed. On the palate, notes of rhubarb and berried fruits to the fore and at the other end - a kick off the back-palate of crushed black pepper. Not forgetting the mid-palate - wonderfully integrated oak & spice and a 360-degree propulsion of graphite-like tannins. Cola and black olive flavors descend with an exuberant swirl - reflective of this wine's youth...
Pair with lamb seasoned with Moroccan herbs and spices.

Full and very tight in the mouth, it gives firm chewy tannins, crisp acid and a long finish. Consider giving this one another year in bottle and drink it 2012 to 2018+."

Located on the Limestone Coast of South Australia, Coonawarra is a pretty flat area, except for the vineyards, which are somewhat elevated. That, along with the proximity to the ocean and clouds that like to hang around, Coonawarra never gets too hot. There is a small strip of soil, about nine miles long and two miles wide, called Terra Rossa, or red soil/earth. It is the coveted place to plant Shiraz & Cabernet Sauvignon in this small region.
Notable FactsCabernet Sauvignon is actually the grape of choice here. There is a good amount of Shiraz planted as well, and blends of the two are popular, but Cabernet grown in the Terra Rossa shows a sense of place, and the wines are in high demand. The wine is elegant in structure, with prominent acidity and firm tannins, but full of ripe fruit flavors typical of Australia's style.
