This wine is both extremely rich and super supple, with fine-grained, mouthfilling tannins, balanced oak and an intriguing dusty quality. The aromas are alluring and sophisticated, offering layers of raspberry, cranberry, blueberry, sassafras, milk chocolate, cinnamon, clove and cassis. A classic expression of Hyde vineyard—powerful, elegant and intricate.
The Wine Advocate - "The 2009 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard had 15% whole-clusters and 14.2% alcohol, which was lower than the two previous wines. The wine has a dense ruby/plum color to the rim, a killer nose of red and black fruits, along with foresty notes, white flowers and spice. It was long, rich, full-bodied, opulent and a terrific example of Pinot Noir. This had the same clonal mix as the 2008. This is a younger, deeper wine than the 2008 and seems to have at least another decade of aging potential. "

Winemaker Hall notes that this has the lowest pH among his 2009 pinots, at 3.5. While he describes the 2009 pinots as generally plush and big, this one stands out for its nervy character. today.”"

Technically a part of Napa Valley, the Carneros region straddles both Sonoma & Napa counties. It's the Napa region closest to the San Francisco peninsula and the San Pablo Bay, which is instrumental in controlling the climate of the area. The winds from the San Pablo bay create a cool weather pattern ideal for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Notable FactsBoth Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Carneros are delicate, yet complex, with firm structure and acidity. And while the pair are the most popular varieties of the region, some winemakers have branched out, particularly with Syrah. The cool climate Syrah of Carneros is well structured and stylistically similar to Syrah from the Northern Rhone, though often fuller-bodied.
