Alcohol By Volume: 14.5%

Alcohol By Volume Guide

  • 10%
  • 16+%
Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

The aromas are inviting and complex with bright ripe raspberry and blackberry notes, deeper elements of molasses, nutmeg and caramel, and hints of vanilla, pepper and dried sage. On the palate, this wine is rich and mouth coating with abundant blackberry jam, bramble and holiday spice flavors. The finish is long and lingering with subtle notes of vanilla, dried tobacco leaf, tarragon and chocolate-covered cherries.

Blend: 63% Zinfandel, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot

Critical Acclaim

"Each of the three varieties in the blend brings its own unique contribution. Zinfandel, the majority, gives spicy wild-berry flavors and robust body. Cabernet Sauvignon lends its firm tannins and deep black-currant flavors, while Merlot adds a soft, sensual mouthfeel. The resulting wine is easy to drink now with almost anything calling for a full-bodied dry red wine."

The Napa wine industry really took off in the 1980's, when vineyard...
