    Winemaker Notes

Known for being the benchmark of Napa Valley Tempranillo (which is indeed rare to begin with) - Parador Tempranillo is made in a traditional, old-world style, from vines that were transported to Napa from Spain in 1998.

Parador Tempranillo has a firm palate feel from integrated tannins, and rich, dark fruit character - The body of the wine becomes expansive in the mouth and the bouquet is reminiscent of plums, violets, stones and minerals.

    Parador, California
Parador Napa Valley is dedicated to producing Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon at the highest level of quality, in hopes of gracing the same tables as other inspired wines from around the world. After 18 years in the wine industry, from merchant to wholesaler, Steven Ventrello embarked upon a quest to make top quality Tempranillo from Napa Valley. Inspired by wines that have become legends in the Ribera del Duero, such as Vega Sicilia and Pesquera, and create a 'new world' brother to those across continents. This journey started in Spain in March 1998. It was then that he was able to procure Tempranillo cuttings from the Ribera del Duero, propagate those into plantable vines, and have a small vineyard developed for his project here in Napa. Now, after 19 harvests, Parador stands as the only Napa Valley producer still, that makes Tempranillo the focal point of its production! Napa, of course, is also recognized as one of the few places in the world, along with Bordeaux and the Tuscan coast, where Cabernet Sauvignon is at its best. Parador's production allows a look into these varieties on a level of purity - unblended varietals, to the complex variations of the two varieties blended together. With additional small lot barrel selections, based upon the concept of Spanish Reservas - cuvées that are given longer barrel and bottle aging, the wines become truly complex and unique, especially in this world of rush-to-market releases.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
