    Winemaker Notes

This vintage has loads of fresh cape gooseberry and passionfruit aromas on the nose. Its delightfully smooth on the palate with full flavoured rich gooseberry characters. With the varieties characteristic acid, the flavours linger on the finish. Enjoy it now and during 2001, by itself or with seafood and salad. Theres nothing better with oysters, ideally freshly shucked.

Winemaker Allan Johnson produces consistently superb wines, which reflect Palliser's prime vineyard sites in Martinborough. Their two brands – Palliser Estate and Pencarrow – offer a comprehensive portfolio of wines, including Chardonnay, Methode Traditionelle, Noble Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris.

Recognized for its distinctively herbaceous and aromatic, Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand is perfectly suited to the grape with its maritime climate, plenty of rainfall and abundant sunshine. Producers have almost unilaterally embraced cutting-edge winery technology, resulting in clean, high-quality wines at every price point from wallet-friendly to premium. Sauvignon blanc is at its best in Marlborough but thrives throughout as the country. It is New Zealand’s most planted and successful variety, also accounting for an overwhelming majority of its exports.
