Most wine ranges from 10-16% alcohol by volume. Some varietals tend to have higher (for example Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon) or lower alcohol levels (Pinot Noir and many white varietals), but there is always some variation from producer to producer. Some wine falls outside of this range, for instance Port weighs in closer to 20%, while Muscat and Riesling are usually a bit below 10%.

Winemaker's Notes

A pale straw with a vibrant light green hue, the Oxford Landing Estates Sauvignon Blanc 2011 has lifted aromas of gooseberry and fresh cut pineapple with herbaceous nettle notes. The palate displays a lively citrus clarity and bright tropical notes and allure of passionfruit. The light to medium palate density, harmoniously balanced with the clarity and tingling natural acidity, leaves a refreshing, crisp finish. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

"The Oxford Landing Estates Vineyard was established way back in 1958, and the wines have always been more than pretty faces, none more so than the sauvignon blanc. The custom-made bottle, appealing packaging and vegan/ vegetarian status (no eggwhite fining) of this wine get it off to a flying start, and this is continued by the low alcohol and even lower price. It also has plenty of thoroughly friendly, gently tropical, varietal flavours. So go for it."

Oxford Landing isn't some invented name on a wine label. It's a real place, a real vineyard, that lies alongside the River Murray near the South Australian river town of Waikerie. Wyndham Hill Smith found this place in 1958 and Yalumba purchased the block naming it Oxford Landing after a nearby site where drovers once grazed and watered sheep on the long journey to Adelaide from northern pastoral properties.
