Some of the other red varieties making good wines include: Carignan, a Spanish
grape found in Spain (under the name Cariñena) and in many of the blends
in the Rhone
and Languedoc-Rousillon
area of France. It's a good grape for making roses of the region. Cinsault is
another blending grape of the Southern Rhone. One of the 13 grapes allowed in
Chateauneuf
du Pape wines, it's one of the main four red grapes used for blending, along
with Grenache, Syrah & Mourvedre. Petit Verdot is one of the Bordeaux fab-five, used
in small percentages for Bordeaux blends.
Pinot Meunier is a red grape used along with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the
making of Champagne and other sparkling wines.
