Red White Sparkling Rosé Spirits GiftsThis winery began in 1991 with the planting of 92 hectares of vineyard...
This winery began in 1991 with the planting of 92 hectares of vineyards on an ancient plot of land whose winemaking history dates back to the 14th century. This historical vineyard site has the honor of being the northern-most red wine-producing vineyard in Spain.
This 350 hectare estate is surrounded by the Perdon and the Peña de Echauri mountain ranges creating a unique microclimate. Rains during the winter and spring are prevalent. During the summer abundant sunshine and great temperature variations between day and night create the right conditions for the vines. In addition, rocky soils throughout the vineyard allow for excellent drainage.
The 92 hectares of vineyards are divided into 13 hectares of Chardonnay, 19 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, 27 hectares of Tempranillo and 33 hectares of Merlot.
There are 15 different clones of red grapes and 3 different clones of white grapes planted. Only estate grown grapes are used in the production of the wines. Thirty-two stainless steel tanks are used to ferment the juice separately by clones and an underground barrel cellar with the capacity of holding 3000 barrels (225 liters) is used for the aging process.
The winery produces two separate lines. The premium brand is Palacio de Otazu and the second label is the Palacio de Eriete brand.
